Top 5 Easy High Protein Breakfasts

5 Easy Protein Breakfasts for Bariatric Surgery Pre or Post Op

# 5 Homemade Protein Drink/Shakes

I start by making a good cup of coffee, usually Gevalia Decaf. You can’t get the Gevalia Decaf in Keurig cups, so, I have to use the universal filters. While that’s brewing, I will put two good glugs of heavy cream into the bottom of my favorite shaker bottle, Contiga shaker bottle and add in my favorite whey protein, Isopure Zero Carb Protein Powder, with about 1 tsp erythritol and shake that up real good. By now the coffee has brewed and I pour that in, then I add whatever flavoring’s I want, depending on my mood/taste for the day. I will typically add in my favorite vanilla brand and the top that with either raspberry or pumpkin pie spice or coconut/pineapple. The choice is really yours depending on what you like. There are several reasons why I like this Isopure Protein Powder:

Homemade Protein shakes, which I prefer over the commercial ones (but, we’ll get to those). For now, my favorite Protein shake is a coffee-based one.

  1. It doesn’t have 25 ingredients I can’t pronounce
  2. with just the shaker ball, I can get it smooth as silk and you won’t know it’s there
  3. I can make it taste like anything I want
  4. It has no artificial sweetener, leaving me to choose the sweetness level and the sweetener I prefer.

I can make this hot or iced, it’s already in a leak-proof bottle and it travels well. If you add a bunch of ice and waz it up in a blender, it’s a shake. So, if you’re a coffee drinker like me, I hope you enjoy my high protein version better than those commercial protein drinks.

# 4 Commercial Protein Drinks/Shakes

Ok, so yeah, you can purchase some Commercial Protein Drinks/Shakes by various manufacturers. I tend to purchase Pure Protein or Atkins. You can use these in several ways. Yep, just grab and go and that will work for what you need it to do. But, if you want to get in some more liquids, one of my go to’s is to just make or buy a coffee and then pour in a protein drink of choice. I know, I know, this isn’t really that new of an idea. But, it does work as a morning grab n go option.

 #3 Plain Yogurt

I’m not a huge fan of yogurt myself as it tends to give me wicked heartburn. Having said that, it’s a great grab and go high protein, lowing carb breakfast. However, Get Plain! Don’t buy the sugared up (either real or fake sweetener) yogurts. First, the ingredient list is ridiculous, you’re not eating real food, but, rather chemicals. Just my humble opinion, but just don’t do it! If you must have it sweetened, use real fruit to sweeten it, or use some erythritol or maybe some no sugar added jams. Again, do what you want, I’m just telling you my thoughts on it… go plain and add your level of sweetness and your sweetener of choice. Js

#2 Cottage Cheese

I’m a huge fan of cottage cheese! Great stats unless you buy those sweetened up choices with added jams and jellies. I’ve never enjoyed sweetened cottage cheese even as a kid, I preferred savory cottage cheese. Sooooo, cottage cheese is a texture thing for me and I’m pretty much a cottage cheese snob. I literally can’t stand most cottage cheese brands as they are too watery, goopy things… blech! I found a cottage cheese I absolutely love but I don’t know where it’s available, though I think you can go to their website and find it. It’s called Friendship! It’s taste and texture are perfect for me. Add some salt and load with pepper, YUM!

I live in upstate New York and for me, left to right… bear to worst… best is Friendship full fat cottage cheese… if you want low or no fat, they have those too and they are tasty, I just don’t go low fat. If you can’t find Friendship in your local store, start talking to your store manager. Next is Hannaford brand, which is the local market around here and frankly all their dairy products are pretty dang good. Finally, one of the most awful cottage cheese brands I’ve ever had the experience of tasting, yuk, just don’t bother. I mean maybe someone will like it, but, I honestly couldn’t even swallow it. Please try the Friendship!!

# 1 Eggs

As if this was a surprise. These are so versatile, easy to prepare for grab and go whether you make egg muffins or boiled eggs or want to grab on the run… eggs are a no brainer!! My daily quick breakfast is to make some egg muffins, but, if I run out of time to be that prepared, I’ll stop at my local Stewart’s shop and grab a egg sausage and cheese wrap. I just tear off the wrap and it’s the perfect portion size for like 160 calories and great protein and nearly no carbs. What’s easier than that?

So that’s my list of top easy breakfast ideas! I hope this was helpful to some of you. Keep in mind, I’m not a nutritionist or a doctor or even an expert. I’m just like you and these have worked for me for 4 years. I hope they will work for you.

 Until next time…
